New Route to Boost Connectivity
The North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) has launched a new Volvo bus service from Siliguri to Digha to improve travel convenience for North Bengal’s denizens and tourists visiting the famous beach.
Service Details and Schedule
The service started on May 28, 2025, and has two operational days a week: Thursday and Sunday. The class ‘A’ Volvo buses that CM Mamata Banerjee inaugurated are equipped with drinking water and blankets and will maintain comfort standards for the passengers. The fare for the Siliguri-Digha route is set to ₹1800 and is subject to a temporary 25% discount until June 15, 2025.
Booking and Journey Information
The ticket can be acquired through NBSTC’s webpage, at the bus stops, or through private web portals. The initial bus will leave Siliguri at 1730 and is expected to arrive in Digha 17 hours later.
Part of a Larger Connectivity Initiative
NBSTC officials noted that this new route is integrated with an extensive plan to link the cities of Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Raiganj, and Malda in North Bengal with the Digha and Jagannath Dham vicinity. The initiative will likely help neither tourists nor regular travellers as it enables direct, comfortable travel.
Positive Response from the Public
The new service has positively contributed to the perception of residents and travellers as it aims to ease long-distance travel. NBSTC has indicated that further enhancements to long-distance bus services are under consideration owing to the rising demand.
The introduction of the Siliguri-Digha Volvo bus service is a remarkable milestone in enhancing public transport and inter-regional linkage in West Bengal, which will aid tourism and local movement.
